The
Jung Educational Center of Houston is now in its fifth decade
of service to the greater Houston community. Founded in 1958,
the Jung Center offers over one hundred courses, programs,
and conferences every year that address the critical social
and spiritual issues of our time as well as the need for personal
growth and development.
Every
year the Jung Center offers three semesters of courses that
challenge the intellect and the soul. Contemporary voices
in psychology, religion, and the humanities engage their students
in conversations with ancient wisdom traditions on the problem
of meaning in personal and cultural, local and global contexts.
Students probe the insights of depth psychology; artists teach
technique and share their experiences of the healing potential
of creativity; internationally-renowned speakers explore such
contemporary issues as parenting, addictions, creativity,
and new forms of spirituality. Numerous scholarships are awarded
to students throughout the year, and a number of programs
are presented without charge. The Jung Center is the only
facility of its kind in the world that equally emphasizes
analytic psychology and the expressive arts of dance, art,
music, and body work.
In addition
to the courses offered in our lovely facility, the Jung Center
offers a wide range of services to the public. Our community
outreach efforts include: after-school classes for underprivileged
children; programs for cancer patients and their family; on-site
courses that support nurses and other allied health professionals;
programs to train the volunteer trainers for AIDS Foundation
Houston; an initiative to train therapists who work with prisoners
at Huntsville State Prison; support groups for professional
caregivers; and many other such programs. Almost all of these
programs are free to the participants, thanks to the generosity
of Houston-based foundations such as The Houston Endowment,
the City of Houston, the Episcopal Health Charities, the Hamman
Foundation, the Frees Foundation, the Clayton Fund, the Blaffer
Foundation, and others. Their support means that the Jung
Center can mobilize its trained professionals in this wide
range of community service programs. Among our partners in
such community- based programs have been M. D. Anderson Cancer
Center Place...of Wellness, the Southeast Family Community
Center, the AIDS Foundation Houston, St. Joseph's Hospital,
the Institute of Religion, Holocaust Museum Houston, the Menil
Collection, Da Camera of Houston, and others.
Originally
an art gallery, the Carolyn Grant Fay building is located
in the heart of the museum district. As an adjunct to its
programs, the Jung Center displays exhibits featuring local,
national, and internationally known artists throughout the
year that are open to the public. The Center has also exhibited
photos as part of the international Foto Fest held biennially
in Houston. An integral part of the Center's programs, the
Center's Bookstore and Library provide an extensive breadth
of books in the fields of psychology, religion, and the expressive
arts. Members and students may check out books from the library,
and the general public is welcome to browse and read.
The Jung
Educational Center of Houston is chartered by the State of
Texas to provide educational services. Our commitment to the
support of the individual who wishes to grow intellectually,
emotionally, and spiritually remains central, even as we become
an ever better member of our community through our outreach
service programs. We invite you to visit our beautiful facility
and to learn how the Jung Center may be helpful to you in
your desire for growth.
