How do you access those experiences that feel too large, too overwhelming, to talk about? Ironically, the very events that have had the greatest impact on our lives are often those that have resisted our ability to articulate their influence and meaning. Through the use of prompts and published models, we will explore a variety of approaches, tones, and strategies to say what has felt unsayable, with in-class and out-of-class assignments. Our goal will be not to minimize these experiences, but to give shape and to make sense of them, to find that elusive thread through the labyrinth. Students will have an opportunity to share their work.

Eden Elieff, MFA, has taught both fiction and memoir writing to students of all ages and levels of experience, in schools and in private workshops. Her stories and essays have appeared in various literary magazines throughout the country, and her work has been nominated for a Pushcart Prize.
