What is a complex? Jung's concept of the complex has become a part of our everyday language—we've all heard of such ideas as the Oedipus complex, the inferiority complex, and the mother complex, but what do these ideas really mean for us? Jung placed great importance on the notion of the complex, which he referred to as "the architect of dreams" and "the via regia" (royal road) to the unconscious. In this course we will explore this basic and important concept through lecture, readings, discussion, film, and through an intuitive appeal to our everyday understanding and experience.
Required Reading: Jung's Map of the Soul, Murray Stein
