How do we become comfortable with the idea that dying is a natural part of our life cycle? Our culture does not always welcome discussions about death. In this class, we will address emotional, philosophical, and practical aspects of the dying process. We will explore the difficulties of making decisions in a high-tech medical system. We will learn the role hospice care can play, and we will look at our own experiences of grief and loss and develop the skills we need to accompany others comfortably on this part of their life journey.

Ruth Landauer, MS, MEd, has been the Volunteer Director at the Hospice at the Texas Medical Center since 1985 and has continued in this position since 2003 in the merged Houston Hospice. In her 23 years in Hospice, Ruth has trained more than two thousand volunteers and has been actively involved with educating the community about end of life care.
