Description

Encounter one of the founding giants of psychology: Sigmund Freud. W.H. Auden noted that Freud had become "a climate of opinion," namely, that his work forced moderns to reflect more thoughtfully on the role and dynamics of the unconscious in the context of daily life. Whether one agrees with his conclusions or not, Freud wrote brilliantly, argued persuasively, and challenges our self-concepts. This course will examine his basic anthropology, theory of dreams, and the discontents of our time.
Required reading: The Freud Reader, Peter Gay, ed.

James Hollis, PhD, is a Zurich-trained Jungian analyst and executive director of The Jung Center.
