Thursday, 6 - 9 pm
May 28
$45 ($40 Jung Center members)
Wrap colorful merino wool around a 3" plastic ball, cover it with hose, wet it and bounce it, creating your own unique felt objects. In this fun evening mini workshop, participants can form felt balls, vessels, treasure bags, or even finger puppets. There will be time to create at least 2 or 3 pieces. The basics of forming handmade felt will be presented, as well as color blending, introducing other fibers, and creating custom shapes. Please bring an old towel and a plastic bag. (Grocery store bags are fine.) Beginners are welcome.
Gika Rector, a former artist in residence at the Houston Center for Contemporary Craft, has been exploring felt-making as an art form for over 10 years. She gives classes and workshops in felt-making at various schools and centers in the Houston area and beyond.
