Encounter the extraordinary inner life of the science fiction writer Philip K. Dick, who has become recognized as one of the most visionary writers of his generation. Dick's stories about androids and false realities have inspired scores of films, including Blade Runner and The Adjustment Bureau. Dick had a series of extraordinary mystical experiences in 1974, out of which came his own "Red Book" —a massive private metaphysical journal called the Exegesis. In 2011, an abridgment of the Exegesis was finally published. In this two-part lecture series, we will hear about the Exegesis and Dick's contemporary spiritual significance from two scholars of his work. In the first lecture, Dick's mystical experience and the marvels and controversies of the Exegesis will be discussed. In the second lecture, we will talk about Dick's profound relationship to Jung and the link between paranormal experience and popular culture.
