How can we handle depression with grace and resourcefulness? Typically, we get stuck in an unproductive struggle with depressive thoughts and feelings. This is not only not helpful, but actually adds to our suffering. Mindfulness can help us find a way out of this depressive loop and relate to thoughts and feelings in a radically different way.
The practice of mindfulness can help us be present and loving toward ourselves in this moment.
Mindfulness, the intentional cultivation of non-judgmental, present-moment awareness, can help us to awaken from our habitual mind states, understand our reactivity to stressors, and address our busyness with greater clarity and creativity.
Research on the effects of mindfulness report that it helps practitioners reduce the immediate effects of stress and produces long-lasting, positive changes in their lives. Those who practice mindfulness have also experienced significant decreases in anxiety, depression, and a variety of physical symptoms. The training helps people gain self-awareness, access and process emotion, reduce reactivity to thought and urges, and access internal compassion and intuition.
This workshop offers a day of instruction, practice, and discussion, in which participants will learn how to foster the practice of mindfulness meditation and the intentional focus on moment-to-moment experience. |
