Compassion and Awareness: Two Wings of the Bird
Saturday, March 20
10 am - 4 pm (1.5 hour break for lunch)
What does it mean to have compassion for one's own experience? The practice of self-compassion has been shown to correlate with stable feelings of self-worth and well-being. Self-compassion buffers anxiety associated with threats to self-worth.
Mindfulness, the intentional cultivation of open-hearted, present-moment awareness, can help us to awaken from our habitual mind states that prevent us from opening to the deep compassion that is already within us. Loving-kindness and compassion meditations, which are a component of mindfulness practice, help us to bring compassion to ourselves and the world.
This workshop offers a day of instruction, practice, and discussion, in which we will foster the practice of mindfulness and loving-kindness meditations. Through these meditations, we will cultivate the two wings of mindfulness, awareness and compassion.
Moving Through Life Gracefully
with Christine Lidvall
Saturday, March 27
10 am - 4 pm (1.5 hour break for lunch)
How can we develop physical ease and freedom of movement? Our bodies carry a lifetime of habits and patterns of holding emotions, which cause physical stress and tension.
This workshop will help participants foster greater ease and awareness through the synergistic approaches of the Alexander Technique and mindfulness meditation, with a focus on how each practice can enhance the other. The Alexander Technique is a unique psychophysical approach to learning about ourselves through movement.
Benefits of both practices include ease of movement, relief from pain, stress and tension, and improved coordination, poise, and energy. Both practices influence our ability to live life more fully and gracefully. |
