Discover the growing evidence that contemplative practices can improve physical and psychological well-being in this series sponsored with The Institute for Religion and Health (IRH).
It has become commonplace to hear that meditation, mindfulness, yoga, centering prayer, and other techniques are in some way good for us. In this innovative series, participants will experience several of these contemplative practices and will learn about the scientific research into their physical and psychological effects.
Over the last decade, such agencies as the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM) and others have increased support for rigorous research in mind-body medicine. As the medical community has come to understand that too much stress is detrimental to health, mind-body contemplative practices have become more popular options for managing stress and improving our quality of life.
The experienced presenters are drawn from the faculty of the Center for Professional Renewal at IRH. Each will demonstrate their tradition and discuss the place of healing within the tradition as well as relevant scientific research. Participants are encouraged to bring a cushion - and an open and skeptical mind. |
