Enlightenment Guaranteed: Film Screening and Discussion
Friday, February 17
6 pm
What is enlightenment? The funny, fish-out-of-water film Enlightenment Guaranteed follows the exploits of two German brothers seeking spiritual experience on a trip to a Japanese monastery. What can we do to improve the quality of our lives? What does it mean to strive for a life of contentment? These and other questions will be considered in an analysis and discussion following the free screening.
Practical Paths to Contentment
Saturday, February 18
9 am - 1 pm
Experience practical techniques for developing a meditation and mindfulness practice. We will explore four meditation techniques—the long, slow breath; the body scan; mantra meditation; and mindfulness practice—in a supportive learning environment. We will also discuss how meditation can help us deal with stress and so-called neurotic suffering. The workshop will build on themes discussed during the Friday evening film screening, but students do not need to attend the screening or view the film in advance to participate. |
