Mindfulness

A Morning of Mindfulness

Scholar and Buddhist practitioner Claire Villarreal leads this introductory workshop.

Saturday, June 9
10 am - 1 pm
$60 ($50 Jung Center members)

Experience a variety of mindfulness practices and learn about the benefits of mindfulness and meditation, as suggested by scientific and medical research. We will learn basic techniques for resting the mind on one object via sessions of guided meditation on the breath and on loving-kindness. We will also prepare the body for meditation through stretches that will make sitting on the ground more comfortable, and we will learn walking practices as another way to attend to the body in the present moment. If you have your own cushion, please bring it. This class is appropriate for anyone curious about mindfulness, as well as those wanting to reconnect with their mindfulness practice. All are welcome.

Claire Villarreal is a doctoral candidate in Rice University's religious studies program, studying Tibetan and comparative religion. She has spent 15 years practicing in the Theravadan and Tibetan Buddhist traditions, including extended periods spent in traditional Asian practice environments.
